Tata Power commissions Unit I of Mundra UMPP in Gujarat



Tata Power, on  January 8, 2012, commissioned Unit I of its 4,000 MW (5x800) Ultra Mega Power Project at Mundra in Gujarat. The company test fired its first supercritical 800 MW unit with initial generation of 60 MW. Tata Power’s 4,000 MW coal based UMPP entails an investment of Rs 17,000 crore overall.  Tata Power is India’s largest integrated power company with a significant international presence.

JSPL’s Unit III of power plant in Chhattisgarh goes on stream



Jindal Steel & Power, on  January 6, 2012, commissioned Unit III of its coal based power plant at Dongamahua, District Raigarh in Chhattisgarh. With the commissioning of this unit at Raigarh, JSPL now has total 4 units of 135 MW each (3 Units in Chhattisgarh and 1 Unit in Orissa) in commercial operation. The total power generation capacity of the company has increased to 917 MW. The company is building 10 coal based power units of 135 MW each - 6 units at Angul in Orissa and 4 units at Dongamahua. Adani commences 40 Mw solar power plant in Kutch, Gujarat

Adani Power’s 40 MW solar power plant has commenced power generation at Bitta in Kutch, Gujarat. The plant is using solar photovoltaic (PV) technology and has over 4,00,000 solar PV modules mounted on 21,600 structures, which are erected on 1,30,000 foundations. The power generated from this solar plant will be evacuated through a 66 kV line linked to a substation in Netra. The project was awarded to Adani Power under Gujarat Solar Power policy of 2009.

Essar augments steel making capacity at its Hazira plant





Essar Steel has completed the capacity expansion of its Hazira steel plant near Surat in Gujarat. The steel unit capacity has been raised to 10 million tpa at an investment of $7.5 billion (approx Rs 39,750 crore). The investment includes raw material beneficiation, steel-making and distribution. The plant will have the capability to manufacture steel at a low cost through a series of cost-cutting measures. The Hazira facility combines a DRI, blast furnace and corex technology for making iron, which is later used in the steel-making process through electric arc furnaces. (January 2012)
