GAIL India commissions Dabhol LNG Terminal

GAIL India on January 10, 2013 successfully commissioned the Dabhol LNG terminal at Ratnagiri, Maharashtra around 340 km south of Mumbai. The terminal is operated by RGPPL, a JV of GAIL (India) and NTPC.  The commissioning of the Dhabol gas terminal provides access to natural gas supply to the southern and western states - Maharashtra, Goa, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. The current capacity of the LNG terminal is 5 million tpa. GAIL is also at an advanced stage of commissioning the 1400- km Dhabol-Bangalore pipeline system.

Unit IV of Mundra UMPP synchronized

Coastal Gujarat Power Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Tata Power Ltd. has synchronised Unit IV of Ultra Mega Power Project (UMPP) at Mundra in Gujarat. The company on January 8, 2013 commissioned 800 MW unit of UMPP project. It had commissioned Unit  I of the project in March 2012, Unit II in July 2012 and Unit III in October 2012. The total power generation at the Mundra UMPP now stands at 3200 Mw.

Reliance Power’s Butibori plant becomes fully operational

Reliance Power Ltd has started power generation from 300 Mw Unit II of Butibori thermal power plant near Nagpur in Maharashtra from January 2013. Unit I of the Butibori power plant was commissioned in August 2012. The 600 Mw power plant has been built over a 276 acre plant in the outskirts of Nagpur. Power generated from the plant will be distributed to industrial and distribution utilities and will help reduce the demand-supply gap in Maharashtra.

Unit I of GMR Kamalanga Energy power plant operational

GMR Energy on January 27, 2013 synchronised the unit I (350 MW) of 1,050 MW-coal based power project at Kamalanga, near Dhenkanal in Orissa. Work on unit II and unit III of the project are in progress. This is the first IPP in Orissa under MoU and to have synchronised with the Central grid.

President inaugurates new terminal of Kolkata airport

Pranab Mukherjee, President of India on January 18, 2013, inaugurated the new integrated terminal of the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport at Kolkata.  The new terminal has capacity to handle 20 million passengers annually as compared to the present 7.46 million. The state-of-the-art world class facility has been built by ITD Cementation India in a JV with its parent company Italian-Thai Development Public Co, Thailand. The new airport terminal has a covered area of 2.33 lakh sq mtrs with 40 immigration counters, 26 conveyor belts, six customs counters and 18 aero bridges.


 
Hitachi India manufacturing facility in Gujarat inaugurated

Narendra Modi, Chief Minister of Gujarat, on 13 January 2013, inaugurated the manufacturing plant of Hitachi Home and Life Solutions (India) (HHLI) at Kadi in Mehsana district of Gujarat. The company has invested Rs 100 crore in the facility which has the capacity to manufacture 6 lakh units per annum of commercial and domestic air-conditioners. The plant located 40 kms north of Ahmedabad is spread over a 85,000 sqmtr plot.

NOCIL commissions chemical plant at Dahej

NOCIL has commissioned Phase I of rubber intermediates and chemicals unit located at Dahej in Gujarat. Phase I of the project consists of rubber intermediate and Phase II of rubber chemicals. The total investment outlay is Rs 500 crores.

Production starts at Parker Hannifin plant near Chennai

Hydraulics-maker Parker Hannifin, on January 8, 2012, began operation from its first manufacturing facility in Chennai. The facility located at Mahindra World City has come up with an investment of Rs 100 crore over the last two years. It will manufacture systems for the automotive, telecom and oil and gas segments catering primarily to domestic demand

Cyient’s new development centre at Kakinada becomes operational

N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh and M.M. Pallam Raju, Human Resources Development Minister on January 10, 2013 inaugurated the new development center of Cyient Ltd (formerly Infotech Ltd) at Sarpavaram SEZ in Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh. The five acre sprawling campus houses the development center with a built up area of 52,000 sq ft. It will deliver cutting-edge solutions to customers primarily in the oil and gas, energy and utilities industry.

Phoenix Market City Mall opens in Chennai

Phoenix Mills Ltd on January 23, 2013 opened the  Phoenix Marketcity mega mall in Chennai. Phoenix Marketcity has come up over 16.5-acre property near Velachery. The mall has spread over 10 lakh sq ft of leasable area. Over 260 international brands are to be housed in the mall, along with a 11-screen, 2,450-seat, multiplex by Sathyam Cinemas.
