Tata Power, on January 8, 2012, commissioned Unit I of its 4,000 MW (5x800) Ultra Mega Power Project at Mundra in Gujarat. The company test fired its first supercritical 800 MW unit with initial generation of 60 MW. Tata Power’s 4,000 MW coal based UMPP entails an investment of Rs 17,000 crore overall. The coal for the plant will primarily be imported from Indonesia through the Kandla port. Once fully operational, Gujarat (1805 Mw) and Maharashtra (760 Mw) will be the largest beneficiary states. www.tatapower.com
