Daimler starts commercial production at Oragadam plant

Daimler India Commercial Vehicles on April 18, 2012, started commercial production of Bharat Benz trucks at its Oragadam facility near Chennai.  Spread over 1.76 lakh sqm, Rs 4,400 crore Oragadam facility has an annual production capacity of 36,000 units.  The company will produce 25 tonne and 31 tonne trucks at this facility. Daimler India Commercial Vehicles is the subsidiary of German Daimler A.G. that owns Mercedes Benz, AMG among others.

Fedders Lloyd Wind Turbine Tower plant in Gujarat inaugurated.

Erstwhile Gujarat Chief Minister, Narendra Modi on April 13, 2012 inaugurated the Wind Turbine Tower manufacturing plant of Fedders Lloyd Corporation at Jambusar in Bharuch District.  The  Rs 200 crore plant spread over 38 acres, has an annual production capacity of up to 250 towers.

Sany Heavy Industries commences crawler cranes production at Chakan.

Chinese multinational machinery manufacturing company, Sany Heavy Industries on April 13, commenced crawler crane production plant at MIDC Chakan, Pune. Along with crawler cranes, the unit manufactures heavy construction equipment, trailer mounted concrete pumps and concrete mixer trucks.

Caterpillar expands India presence with new back-hoe plant near Chennai’

Caterpillar on April 12, 2012 commissioned its new back-hoe manufacturing plant located at Thiruvallur, near Chennai. Investment details are not made public. American multinational Caterpillar is the world’s leading manufacturer of construction and mining equipment with $ 67 billion revenue worldwide.

Atul's 1,000 crore chemical plant at Ankleshwar goes on stream

Erstwhile Gujarat Chief Minister, Narendra Modi on April 6, 2012 inaugurated Atul Ltd’s state-of-the-art P Cresol manufacturing facility at Ankleshwar. The plant has been set up at a cost of Rs 1,000 crores and has a capacity to manufacture 8,000 tons of P Cresol.  Atul is the flagship company of Gujarat’s Lalbhai Group.

Essar Energy commissions Unit I of Salaya Power Plant in Jamnagar

Essar Energy in April 2012 commissioned Unit I of the Salaya Thermal Power Plant located near its oil refinery at Vadinar, in Jamnagar district of Gujarat. The work on Unit II is also in full progress. Essar Energy has invested Rs 5,500 crore on the project and the coal for the plant is sourced from Essar’s captive mines in Indonesia.

Subrata Roy Sahara International Stadium in Pune inaugurated.

Sharad Pawar, the erstwhile BCCI President, on April 1, 2012, inaugurated the Subrata Roy Sahara International Stadium in Pune. It has been built with an investment of Rs 260 crores, based on a design supplied by Sir Michael Hopkins, UK.  The stadium located at Guhanje,, off Mumbai-Pune Express Highway has a seating capacity of 45,000.

Reliance Power commences Unit I of Rosa Thermal Power Plant in UP

Rosa Power Supply Co Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of Reliance Power Ltd, commissioned the Unit IV of 300 Mw Rosa Thermal Power Plant in Shahjahanpur district of Uttar Pradesh in April 2012.  With  the commissioning of Unit IV, the company has synchronized the 1,200 Mw thermal power plant, built in two phases. The machinery for the power plant has been imported from Shanghai Electric Corporation. The entire energy will be supplied to Uttar Pradesh.

Avery Dennison completes expansion at Ranjangaon

Avery Dennison has completed Rs 1,000 crore expansion of its facility located at MIDC Ranjangaon, near Pune.  California based Avery Dennison Corporation is a global manufacturer of pressure sensitive adhesive materials, apparel branding labels, RFID inlays etc. It already has a adhesive plant in Gurgaon, and Innovation Centre in Pune and a Knowledge Centre in Bangalore.

Reliance Power commissions 40 Mw solar power plant in Jaisalmer

Reliance Power has commissioned a 40 Mw Solar Photo-Voltaic power project at Dhursar village in Jaisalmer district of Rajasthan. The power project has been powered by 5,00,000 thin film modules and is expected to generate more than 70 million kilowatt hours of clean, green energy annually. The Rs 700 crore project is spread over 350 acre and it will supply energy equivalent to consumption of 75,000 households.

MRPL completes Rs 12,000 crore Phase III expansion project

Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemical Ltd on 29 March 2012, commissioned the Crude and Vacuum Distillation Unit III of its Phase III refinery expansion-cum-upgradation project in Karnataka. With the completion of CDU/VDU-III of three million tpa capacity, MRPL has commenced the production from the Rs 12,160 crore Phase III refinery expansion-cum-upgradation project.  The Phase III refinery project consisted of expansion of capacity by adding additional 3 million tpa crude processing among other upgradations.

NTPC commissions Unit IV of Simhadri Super Thermal Power Plant in Andhra Pradesh.

NTPC, on 30 March 2012, synchronised 500 Mw Unit IV of Simhadri Super Thermal Power project at Simhadri in Visakhapatnam district of Andhra Pradesh.  With this the total installed operational capacity of NTPC-Simhadri has gone up to 2,000 MW. Power generated from Simhadri Stage-II will be supplied to Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamilnadu, Kerala and Pondicherry.

CLP Power commissions Unit I of Jhajjar Power Plant in Haryana

CLP Power on March 28, 2012 commissioned 660 Mw Unit I of its 1,320 Mw coal based Jhajjar Power Plant in Haryana. The total cost of the project is Rs 6,000 crores, which is being financed by a consortium of foreign banks. 90 per cent of power generated from this plant has been earmarked for Haryana while the remaining 10 per cent will be supplied to Delhi.

Brigade Group’s Orion Mall opens in Bangalore

Brigade Group’s 1.1 million sqft Orion Mall opened for business in March 2012.  Orion Mall is part of the integrated enclave known as Brigade Gateway which also houses World Trade Centre, Sheraton Hotel and Columbia Asia Hospital.  The Mall has four floors of retail space, 11 screen, 2800 capacity multiplex, 8,000 sqft gaming zone and 60,000 sqft Food Court called Sauce Pan. It also sports a 27 lane bowling alley named Blu O.

Elecon Engineering commissions gear box plant in Gujarat

Elecon Engineering Company commissioned its new new manufacturing plant in March 2012, as an expansion of the Elecon Gear Division  The new plant located at Anand has a capacity of manufacturing 1,000 gear boxes per month. The new plant has been built to double the gear box manufacturing capacity to ensure on-time delivery for customers.

Trident commissions yarn expansion project at Budhni in Madhya Pradesh.

Trident has commissioned its new yarn spinning unit with an installed capacity of 76,176 spindles at its Budni facility in Madhya Pradesh.  The new plant is equipped with latest state of the art technology that manufactures Combed Yarn and Compact Yarn in the count range of 40s to 100s.  With the commissioning of this yarn spinning unit, the total yarn spinning capacity of the company has increased to 3,65,904 spindles and 3,584 rotors.

Vivanta by Taj, Bekal opens its resorts hotel

Taj Hotels Resorts and Palaces, on 12 March 2012, announced the opening of the new spa resort - the Vivanta by Taj-Bekal - in Kerala. The hotel property spread over 26 acre is located at Kappil beach near Bekal in the Kasargod district. It features 71 laterite lined villas and rooms which are inspired by the design of Kettuvallam house boats and reflect Chitra Pothi art on the walls.

Tata Bluescope Steel commissions coated steel facility at Jamshedpur

Tata BlueScope Steel, on 6 March 2012, commissioned its coated steel manufacturing facility at Jamshedpur in Jharkhand.  The facility spread over an area of around 61 acre has been set up with an investment of Rs 880 crore. It will cater to India and SAARC countries. The facility has an annual metallic coating capacity of 2,50,000 tonne, including pre-painting capacity of 1,50,000 tonne.

MAS GMR Aero Technic commissions MRO facility at Hyderabad airport.

UPA Union Civil Aviation Minister Ajit Singh on 14 March 2012, inaugurated the MAS GMR Aero Technic’s, aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) complex at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad. The MRO facility has been set up at an investment of Rs 350 crore. MAS GMR Aero Technic is a  a 50:50 JV between Malaysian Aerospace Engineering and GMR Hyderabad International Airport.

Unit II of Maithon Power at Dhanbad commissioned

Tata Power, on 19 March 2012, synchronised the Unit II of 525 MW at its Maithon mega power project in Dhanbad district of Jharkhand.  The Unit I of 525 MW was commissioned in September 2011. The project is being implemented by Maithon Power, a 74:26 JV between Tata Power and Damodar Valley Corporation.

Radisson Blu Chennai City Centre opens at Egmore.

The Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group, a global hospitality and travel company, on 3 March 2012, announced the opening of Radisson Blu Hotel Chennai City Centre at Egmore in Tamil Nadu. 

This is the second Radisson Blu hotel in Chennai and marks Carlson Rezidor’s 51st hotel in India. The 162 rooms Radisson Blu also features 14 luxurious suite rooms and hosts the Great Kebab Factory.

Godfrey Phillips commences operations at its Navi Mumbai cigarette factory

Godfrey Phillips India commissioned its new cigarettes unit in Maharashtra in March 2012. The unit, located at MIDC TTC Industrial Area, Rabale, Navi Mumbai has a capacity of 900 million pieces per month. The company has invested Rs 200 crore in the plant.

Matheson K-Air India commissions helium facility in Rajasthan

Matheson K-Air India  (MKI) in February 2012, commissioned its second helium transfill facility at Bhiwadi, Rajasthan. The facility is part of MKI's expansion plan for which it has invested total of Rs 450 crore. The new helium facility has the capability to supply liquid helium in dewars, as well as high purity gas in high pressure cylinders and tubes. It also has facility to fill other atmospheric gases such as Argon, Nitrogen and CO2 in high pressure cylinders.

SNF India commissions new chemical plant at Visakhapatnam

SNF India on February 22, 2012 commissioned the company’s chemical plant at Jawaharlal Nehru Pharma City in Visakhapatnam.  The plant, with a capacity of 35,000 tpa, has been set up at a cost of Rs 200 crore.  SNF India is the subsidiary of SPCM S.A. France and the only global supplier specializing in the manufacture of water soluble polymers.

Gamesa Wind Turbines sets up tower manufacturing plant at Vadodara

Gamesa Wind Turbines has set up a tower manufacturing facility at Vadodara, Gujarat, which commenced operations in February 2012.  Spread over a 110 acre site, the Rs 90 crore facility will produce 240 tubular towers per year.  Gamesa Wind Turbines is a subsidiary of Gamesa Corporation Technologica S.p.A of Spain and is in operation in India since 2010.

New terminal of Devi Ahilyabai Holkar Airport becomes operational

The new terminal of Devi Ahilyabai Holkar Airport in Indore, Madhya Pradesh was opened on February 14, 2012. Built at a cost of Rs 135 crores, the terminal, spanning over 1.8 lakh sqft area, is made from glass and steel. It is equipped with a host of amenities including a central heating system as well as a central air conditioning unit. The terminal also incorporates an inline x-ray baggage inspection system which will be integrated with its baggage conveyor system.

Trident commissions new yarn spinning unit at Barnala

Trident Corporation on February 7, 2012 commissioned a new yarn spinning unit with an installed capacity of 65,280 spindles at its Sanghera facility in Barnala in Punjab.  With this commissioning, the total yarn spinning capacity of the company has increased to 2,89,728 spindles.  The project is part of the three phase Rs 1,117 crore expansion plan being undertaken by the company.

Rajkot – Vadinar four lane tollway becomes operational.

L&T Rajkot Vadinar Tollway, a wholly owned subsidiary of L&T Infrastructure Development Projects has commenced commercial operations of the four laned 132 km stretch of SH-25 in Gujarat from February 1, 2012. The project connects Rajkot to Vadinar via Jamnagar. The cost of the project is Rs 1,096 crore, and the concession period for the project is 20 years.

Kosi Mahasetu bridge at Supaul in Bihar opened for traffic.

Gammon Infrastructure Projects completed the construction of Kosi Mahasetu across the River Kosi at Supaul in Bihar.
